Sound in the Film!

Image
Hey Yall!!  Currently we haven’t been able to record much at all- setback after setback with equipment has sent us all spiraling! However at the very least id like to be able to share what sounds are planned,  Music: We are considering a bit here! Potentially a city pop-esque sound (Aka Japanese 80’s pop) or potentially something more upbeat, classical is also on consideration to match Tuyetnhi’s character. Digetic edited: Sounds within the film that may be too quiet to make impact, such as doorbell ringing, typing, etc will be recorded again to be louder! same with the bead title screens. Thankfully Tuyetnhi has access to adobe for editing, and I have a few phone softwares if we need something quick and accessible! Digetic natural: This mainly comes in the form of dialogue, but also small objects and details on the characters throughout the film! I want the natural sounds of clothes without them being too loud and distracting for the audience. Non digetic: Of course th...

Film day 1!

Image
We'll be filming again really soon hopefully, but last week Wednesday was our first time!! Woo-hoo! So, this was the first day we recorded anything, and honestly most of the filming ended up being mockups for the later real deal, since we were testing out what worked.  We realized veryyy quickly that wed need to change the audio or at least keep the room dead silent during these mockups. We also realized we most definitely had to change our script during this process, as the main problem of continuity continued to plague our minds. We decided on something slighty new and are updating our storyboard accordingly, no worries!! We didn't have a mic and spent a long time playing around with the equipment so there were quite a few setbacks, but we managed to get some mockups of scenery footage. Reshoots are definitely necessary though! I love what we have especially with the set but I hope we can tweak some of our camera settings to get better quality and some good shallow focus/ r...

Set up and Experiment!

Image
So, today we did our first bits of prep! Due to Mr Jim from the beacon program we had access to test some film equipment out! Im hoping we can either use this service or some equipment from a coworker of my mom.  Anyways, today we set up props! (ooooo exciting!) Me and Tuyetnhi basically placed everything needed, and we spent a hot minute making sure the placement of all the props look natural (and getting distracted by my dog nala!) We also placed plushies surrounding the table, which was fun! we started naming them at one point! and I like how the cats correspond to the style of each character. Now to the hard part... the equipment. Tu understood how to set some of this up, but we were mostly lost... spending 30 minutes figuring out how to zoom in, even calling my boyfriend for advice before realizing the button was at the top, fenagling with the lighting colors, watching the tripod almost drop on us multiple times?!?! Kind of insane, but also, I had so much fun! (anddd I'...

Supporting character!

Image
So, in this short film we only have two characters, acted by me and Tuyetnhi! By the way, I feel like the cover photo I used this time of Kuromi and My melody fits perfectly for our theme! Tu's character has a much different visual vibe than mine. Still having a fun fashion style, but one considered more relaxed and refined. Her character in this film is far more spunky, hyped up, energetic but in a sharp, refined way. In an EGL fashion co-ord (see previous posts to understand), Tuyetnhi's character is a bit fussier (as she described,) and seems to be often comedically pessimistic, but still enjoys her friend's company. She also comes off with having a gentle concern for her friend, who isn't doing as well as she seems to in the film.   Yesterday the props came in actually, and the main notable aspects were the characters duality in trinkets, as Tu's character had black, platinum and white charms, all very elegant (for instance this absolutely beautiful fan charm ...

Color within the film!

Image
So when it comes to color of our film, our focus is definitely gonna be warm, nostalgic tones. Most of the piece also consists of pastels which I consider important! Then in terms of editing we want to add some color corrections to really pull out the nostalgia. Our team member Bella gave us the wonderful example of the “Generation Y” music video by Conan Gray! in addition, during the sadder parts of our film the color changes pretty drastically, having blue lighting as suggested by tuyetnhi. This is in coordination with the clothing, wearing bland and sterile colors during this portion. And speaking of clothes, are two main characters are distinct because of the strong differences in the colors they wear, with my character in a messy pink get-up while tuyetnhi has a calculated perfected black co-ordinate. Same with tjr title sequences, accessories and props; everything is there for a reason! To be completely honest, Tuyetnhi has a much more detailed and wonderful explanation of t...

MAIN CHARACTER!!!

Image
WOOO!!!! I love writing characters a lot so this is so exciting!  To start with my character, within the story she's a sweet but rebellious kid, who uses her fashion and childish activities as an escape from her less fortunate reality. So here are some details related to that importance for her character! Gyaru. As explained previously, gal culture is inherently teenage rebellion. However, himekaji is a sweeter and more relaxed version of that culture, reflecting the characters semi-reserved personality! When it comes to props, one noticeable feature sticks out; the mc's my melody plush.  Sanrio is the franchise that hello kitty comes from, a brand known for designing cute and memorable characters. most notably, My melody is a sweet bunny, meant to create more confidence in shyer girls such as the main character. and I have a picture of her righttt here! bracelets are inherently gyaru, but our girlie is covered in them, which is actually more interesting than u think! each of ...
