Costuming!

Alright! So; there are 2 main characters in our film, acted by me and tuyetnhi respectively. Style is important to this film, and so id like to show you what we will each be wearing, yet in a different way that the others did in rheir posts! Im in a gyaru style (which i will explain here) and tuyetnhi is in egl. This actually replicates our styles in real life! So im really excited to show up and show out!

To start, the J fashion movement in general came from many origins, but generally boomed when the young people in Japan decided to stand up and stand out! With Gyaru and Lolita fashion, both came from this start but had very different results that I think play into our story a bit.

Gyaru started in japanese schools, as girls and guys alike rebelled against Japanese beauty standards. Bleaching rhwir hair, tanning their skin, wearing makeup, lashes and nails, and altering their school clothes. This became known as kogal, and is now a term for a gyaru/gal in high school (like me!) more styles came up and now gyaru is actually a worldwide niche phenomenon.

The specific style im going for is himekaji gal! himekaji means casual princess, a style full of pink and frills and bows, bur also nails and fun hairstyles and makeup!

speaking of which, gyaru makeup is very important to the style, and can be done in many ways but often looks like this;

Now onto lolita, a style that also came from teen rebellion! Wanting to dress beautifully without the intervention of men, japanese women started to wear huge frilly dresses around the street, similar to the victorian era. It became its own style from there, with hime even being a sub-style (see, connected!!)

Lolita fashion has much stricter style requirements; consisting of certain aspects to function as a full coordinate.

From a magazine known as the gothic lolita bible, a blend of goth (or specifically modern and lolita often known as Egl was popularized, and is now the most popular aesthetic within lolita!

Funfact; J fashion enthusiasts usually LOVE SANRIO! many characters (ex. My melody/my sweet piano for himekaji gals, or us*a*ha*na for decora kei! heres my personal lolita bag thats a prop for our film!!
