Title Sequence Research

Heya!
So, a huge thing that interests me a lot is title sequences! After all, Im an animator; and since im still young and practicing, working on title sequences are my best way to display impressive work with a lack of time! Seriously title sequences are so much fun, and have a tendency to show off some amazing animation and typography, so let’s analyze some that I really liked!

Movie 1; Enchanted
OKAY! Starting the first few seconds the warp transition from the sky to the book, and the camerawork of the first 5 seconds is awesome, I absolutely love how that plays into the magical and fairytale vibe of this movie, which is of course added on by the gorgeous lettering. The moving camera slowly closing up to the lettering more and more, with the animation of blooming flowers and fairies add to it a lot too! Generally the use of stereotypical fairytale elements quickly establish the aesthetics of this movie and eludes to the mix of animation and real life aesthetics used! Also- The ending with the kiss turning into a heart, and its illusion to the story being a romance! It works perfectly.

Movie 2; Kung fu panda
Okay this one despite being technically advanced, is fairly simple in concept. Essentially the sequence reflects the characters and titles of actors, showing clear aspects of their personality through the 2D animation, while the sequence is through a 3D setting which makes way for a variety of transitions, all to a remix of “Kung Fu Fighting.” Pretty self explanatory! Past that point the sequence just has everyone who worked on the movie with art of character interactions in the background which really helps to build even more of a connection to the characters the audience is already attached to in some way.

Movie 3; Into the spiderverse

OKAY THIS ONE IS INSANELY VISUALLY ENGAGING!!!
The use of an exhilarating fast pace, gorgrous comic book style and using the same “Hello My Name Is” cards and fonts as a note to the movie (the spiderverse trilogy is webbed with Easter eggs!)contrasted with the glitchy fun visuals of it all, its awesome. Using the meta of frame by frame animation with the main cast, showing the action and skill it takes to work is awesome. Just- awesome (Is it obvious yet that I adore this movie?) and the use of freeze frames and kalideoscope visuals to depict how character driven and fun this movie is. So yeah! WATCH IT!! PLEASE!!

Overall, I love title sequences, I love the work they take to create, I love the synthesis of sound and visuals, I love it!!!
