Former Student Work :000

Basically, I’ll be a little fake critic today judging earlier works! I decided to do this in a more formatted system so I can say exactly how I feel!!

Roll Call:

Strengths- Dialogue! A lot of it explained the set up for the story that the whole movie would have been. I also really like their use of props and photos to establish that story, and the Birds Eye view establishing shot is just sooo pretty!!

Weaknesses- The camera is quite shaky, and sometimes therefore looks very off. I also think a better audio quality would be helpful, as it sounds very shotty. 

Overall: Pretty nice, good storytelling, I like it overall, needs some work but it’s super interesting so I think it holds up well! 

New Everything:

Strengths- The implementation of the low quality music for headphone sound was pretty good. Also I generally like the transitions! 

Weaknesses- The camera quality is pretty blurry, the sound quality is also a bit off. It’s honestly really boring… The trope of just waking up and going to school for an opening without any expressive or fun addition to it really just made me not enjoy it much.

Overall: Sorry, I understand the idea but- I just wasn’t interested… It’s objectively not too great either in a technical sense. I just wish it was executed better. 

Dreamland:

Strengths- Camerawork is amazing and sooo steady!! I love the storytelling too, probably the strongest portion of the work, the visuals and imagery are just very pleasing!!

Weaknesses- Lack of variety in transitions and scenes at times, along with a very strong tonal shift that I wish was better connected. 

Overall: Okay okay, I gotta be honest I adore this one! The whole vibe going on, even though I wish it was more clear, It’s honestly beautiful and feels borderline professional in the latter half. Really good!!!

Dear Lover

Strengths- Dialogue is very good! The story was pretty well established with the voiceover + interview form, I also really liked the shots and atmosphere. 

Weaknesses- Mainly sound quality in the scene where the two protagonists are speaking, It’s mostly due to the outside environment just wish I could hear them better!

Overall: Its pretty good! Enticing the viewer at the end like that was a nice touch! Overall a really nice intro to what seems like a coming of age love story. Fun!

Dare to Thrill

Strengths- Love the immediate character introductions! Camera shots are gorgeous and I love the variety, adds to the overall carefree mood the characters seem to share. Also the music and title cards are great! Overall I love it honestly, genuinely super entertaining. 

Weaknesses- The music was a little too loud for me to hear the actors, and I do wish the music cutting off was a cut rather than a fade, I think it would of fit that juxtaposition more!

Overall: In my opinion, This is the best one in the catalog! I love the juxtaposition, the vibe, The shoots, the quality, the story, It’s just good!!
