Former Student Work :000

Basically, I’ll be a little fake critic today judging earlier works! I decided to do this in a more formatted system so I can say exactly how I feel!! Roll Call: Strengths- Dialogue! A lot of it explained the set up for the story that the whole movie would have been. I also really like their use of props and photos to establish that story, and the Birds Eye view establishing shot is just sooo pretty!! Weaknesses- The camera is quite shaky, and sometimes therefore looks very off. I also think a better audio quality would be helpful, as it sounds very shotty.  Overall: Pretty nice, good storytelling, I like it overall, needs some work but it’s super interesting so I think it holds up well!  New Everything: Strengths- The implementation of the low quality music for headphone sound was pretty good. Also I generally like the transitions!  Weaknesses- The camera quality is pretty blurry, the sound quality is also a bit off. It’s honestly really boring… The trope of just waking ...

GROUP MEMBERS!!

Sooooooo, I’ve decided my good old buddy old pal Tuyetnhi and I shall collaborate! From what I can tell, our tastes in film, are simultaneously very similar and drastically different. The main thing I notice we have the connection between is Studio Ghibli, of course, and animation in general for that matter. However, I’m noticing a lot of well- darker tones throughout the film she has studied? Which I personally adore. Don’t think that just because my blog is all sunshine and rainbows looking means that i’m scared of all things ever so slightly sad or horrifying, I would heavily enjoy making some sort of cutesy, psychological horror or something of the sort! Upon speaking to her about this, we came through one or two road bumps, primarily the fact that we aren’t in the same class period. However, we have lunch together every day plus the fact that we have very close proximity to each other when it comes to distance of our homes, I’m sure we’ll figure things out! Plus to make thin...

Storyboard trials!

Image
I did a storyboard based off of The “Mr Napkin”  scene from “The Holiday!” https://youtu.be/gRjSCR-qD3U?si=oEHUWTr6_XTH_0Mq So, to start about what I learned; Movies recorded on film have very different storyboards than animation, my usual medium. It’s in some ways much more meticulous with its focus on writing, but way less meticulous with its art focus. I think its really important to mention all aspects especially things you cants we from the sketch (music, dialogue, etc.) It’s very reminiscent of a comic book actually, anything you can’t show you have to say. Now… The challenges….this, was, HARDDDDD! Super super super tedious. I think having an idea in kind is absolutely necessary because without the visuals I did I would have been struggling. I’ve done Storyboarding before but particularly for animation so it just doesn't work the same here. Also deciding what details were important to show was really a challenge! Long story short, just try not to give up and make sure you hav...

Mis en Scene!!!

Image
Okay!! So, learning about mis en scene was so much fun and so informative, and also apparently has been something I’ve been doing for years!    Ive decided that in particular, Howls Moving Castle would be my dream movie to study the mis en scene of. As a resident nerd of course Studio Ghibli is inspiration for maybe… 50% of my work? So yeah, It’s a big focus for me, hence why i’m so hyped! Without further ado, let’s just get started, shall we?  To start, this scene in the beginning of the movie really helps to define who Sophie is at this point just by this scene alone. Starting with costume, sophie here wears a long green dress. Vaguely through this outfit you can identify the general time period, and quite a bit about Sophie’s personality. She wears green, which blends in strongly with the rest of the picture shown here. She wears things that are simple, and therefore she tends not to stand out. Same with her hair, She ties it back rather than doing much to style it, sh...
